past residencies
In November 1997 we made our first visit to France, at the invitation of the Association Culturelle Bievre-Liers; based in a small town between Lyons and Grenoble, the association fosters cultural activity in a very rural area. Our remit was to introduce our music to the local people and to encourage participation, so for three weeks we were installed in a community centre, giving workshops to local schools, talking to local and national media, and hosting open rehearsals. The main work of the project, however, involved two groups of students from the nearby music school, who used our new sequencing equipment to write their own pieces (based on pianocircus repertoire) and who performed them with great success in the opening concert of the international music festival "38eme Rugissants". The project gave us a great opportunity to work together away from the demands of London life and to get to know a community very different from our own.
