Piano Circus has been Associate Ensemble at Brunel University, School of Arts since 2004. This has
enabled the group to rehearse and prepare for performances from a studio base, as well as giving
them the opportunity to work with undergraduate and postgraduate composition students through workshops.
They have also been able to develop and expand their relationships working with resident composers
such as Colin Riley and Peter Wiegold and have invited guest composers to work with them such as
Graham Fitkin, Philip Mead, Lynne Plowman, Andrew Morgan and Philippe Kocher. Previous Associate Artist
Residencies have included Roehampton University and Royal Holloway University of London.
Piano Circus are active in performing student works developed during their Residency in public performances. Most recent of these include a PRSF commission for E-Tudes by Federico Reuben, Duncan MacLeod's 'Ellipsis' and Joel Bell's Fluxus, which have each received performances, respectively at Sound Source at Kings Place, The Space Festival and Newcastle University.
Within their 20in09 20th Anniversary festival, the ensemble invited composer Errollyn Wallen to work with Brunel student ensemble, Jazzbridge, in an open workshop followed by a performance at Oxford House in London, supported by West Focus Centre for Knowledge Exchange and PRS Foundation for new music and Arts Council England.
Piano Circus continue to be involved in Seminar sessions within the academic year (which are open to guests on request) and are currently working with 2nd year students for a composition/accompaniment module. Please see Brunel School of Arts page for diary details.
